Our training equipment of choice at our club is the halter. This is a webbing headcollar that fits over your dog’s head and around their muzzle, buckling behind the ears with an adjustable plastic clip. The lead is attached to a ring under the chin. A dog halter is similar to the halter used on livestock. Once the lead is attached to the halter, it deters pulling on the lead without the need for correction. Where the head goes, the body follows.

Some dogs accept the halter straight away while others will need to gradually become accustomed to the feeling of the halter on their face. Couple the halter to all highpoints of their day - like walks, meals, playtime and cuddles. Give plenty of treats while the halter is on to make the best possible association. 

Initially, the halter needs to fit snugly, to prevent your dog from removing it or biting through the webbing. Once your dog is used to wearing a halter, you can purchase a larger size and/or adjust the halter to fit more loosely

Size 1 – Jack Russel

Size 2 –  Spaniel, Staffordshire Bull Terrier

Size 3 – German Shepherd, Border Collie, Labrador, Pitbull

Size 4 – Rottweiler, Boerboel
